Gap Coverage Request (GCR) Form Set Your Coverage. Protect Your Organization.

Use this form to set a standing Gap Coverage instruction for your account. SecureSearch will automatically apply your selected level to every criminal background check you order — no additional steps required each time.

FCRA Compliant Standing account instruction Applies to every background check Covers all alias names 20+ years of experience

The Multi-State Criminal Database is a useful starting point — but it is not a complete picture. Many counties and states do not consistently report criminal records to national databases, and federal convictions are never included. Relying on the database alone can leave meaningful gaps in your screening.

Gap Coverage closes those gaps by running additional searches based on each applicant's address history and known names over the past 7 years. By submitting this form, you are setting a standing instruction for your entire account — SecureSearch will automatically apply your selected Gap Coverage level to every criminal background check you order.

Paid staff vs. volunteers: Courts do not distinguish between paid employees and volunteers. Liability is determined by roles and responsibilities — not compensation status. We strongly recommend screening all individuals in similar roles to the same standard.

Many counties and states charge court access fees that are passed through to you at cost. These are in addition to SecureSearch service fees and can significantly affect your total cost per applicant. Review the schedules below before making your selections:

Section 1: County & Statewide Search Options

These searches cover criminal records held at the local and state level that may not appear in the national database. Review each option carefully — the risk badge shows what may be missed with each choice.

✓ Best Practice

Option 1 — All Addresses, All Aliases

Highest cost · Lowest risk

Every address in the past 7 years, including all alias names — maiden names, nicknames, misspellings, any name used for credit.

Low Risk

Option 2 — Non-Reporting Only

Moderate cost

Skips counties already reporting to the national database. All addresses and alias names are still covered.

Moderate Risk

Option 3 — Top 2 Residences

Lower cost

Up to 2 non-reporting searches, limited to the 2 longest residences. May include one alias.

⚠ Addresses beyond the 2 longest will not be searched. Criminal records from those locations would not be found.

Higher Risk

Option 4 — Longest Residence Only

Lower cost

1 county/statewide search, longest residence only. May include one alias name.

⚠ Records tied to all other locations would not be found.

Higher Risk

Option 5 — Non-Reporting, Longest Only

Lower cost

1 non-reporting search, longest residence only. May include one alias name.

⚠ Only the single longest non-reporting address is checked. Significant gaps remain for all other locations.

⛔ Highest Risk

Option 6 — No County Searches

No added cost

Do not order county or statewide searches.

⛔ I understand that criminal records held at the county and state level will not be found, and I accept full responsibility for any risks associated with this decision.

Section 2: Federal Court Search Options

⚠ Why Federal Searches Matter For Your Organization

Federal courts handle crimes that cross state lines or fall under federal law. These records will never appear in county or state databases — a federal search is the only way to find them. They are filed under any name the person has ever used, including maiden names and aliases.

👧 Child & Youth Safety

  • · Child pornography & exploitation
  • · Human trafficking of minors
  • · Internet crimes against children (ICAC)
  • · Interstate enticement of a minor
  • · Transportation for sexual activity

Critical for any organization working with children, youth programs, or vulnerable adults.

🏦 Church & Nonprofit Finances

  • · Wire fraud & mail fraud
  • · Embezzlement of nonprofit funds
  • · Bank fraud & identity theft
  • · Tax evasion & IRS fraud
  • · Money laundering

Essential for anyone handling donations, accounts, payroll, or financial records.

💼 Employer Liability

  • · Cybercrime & data breaches
  • · Drug trafficking across state lines
  • · Interstate domestic violence
  • · Federal weapons violations
  • · Terrorism-related offenses

Protects your organization from negligent hiring claims and workplace safety liability.

⚠ Important — Alias Names & Federal Records Federal cases are often filed under any name the person has used — maiden names, nicknames, aliases. Choosing "current name only" means cases filed under a former name may never surface, even if the person has a federal conviction for child exploitation, fraud, or trafficking.
National Federal Courts Coverage Options:*
✓ Best Practice

Option 1 — All Known Names

Higher cost · Lowest risk

Federal search across all names from the past 7 years, including all alias names — maiden names, nicknames, misspellings, any name used for credit.

Best coverage for child exploitation, trafficking, and financial fraud cases filed under former names.

Moderate Risk

Option 2 — Current Name Only

Lower cost

Federal search for the current name only as entered on the application.

⚠ Child exploitation, trafficking, and fraud cases filed under a maiden name, nickname, or alias will not be found. Federal cases involving name changes may be missed entirely.

⛔ Highest Risk

Option 3 — No Federal Searches

No added cost

Do not order federal searches.

⛔ I understand that crimes including child exploitation, trafficking, fraud, cybercrime, and drug trafficking will not be found through a federal search, and I accept full responsibility for any risks associated with this decision.

Section 3: Authorization Statement

Before you sign — please confirm you understand the following:

  • Gap Coverage fees are charged per search, not per applicant — costs scale with the number of addresses and alias names found for each applicant.
  • Choosing a lower-coverage option means some locations or names will not be searched, and criminal records from those sources may not be found.
  • Court access surcharges are passed through at cost and are separate from SecureSearch service fees.
  • I have reviewed the SecureSearch Pricing page for my organization's package before submitting.
