CONTINUOUS COURT RECORDS
MONITORING

How would you feel if an employee’s criminal record slipped past you?

Employers often harbor a list of what-ifs and worst-case scenarios that keep them up at night. It can be ulcer-inducing to think of the consequences of insider fraud—financial setbacks, legal liabilities, job and asset losses, and bad press that harms your brand.

But it’s downright terrifying to imagine workplace violence that could injure and traumatize your staff, especially if there were warning signs you missed.

No one wants to be the hiring manager responsible for the catastrophic hire. No one wants to suffer the regret of feeling responsible for damages caused by an employee with a criminal history that you “could” or “should” have known about.

Imagine, instead, being the hero with the foresight and tools to mitigate potential exposure to threats, including: Workplace violence; Negligent retention litigation; Risk, fraud, embezzlement; theft, DUIs and more; Damage to your brand reputation.

Background checks are no longer enough

More and more employers use pre-employment background checks to address workforce risk. They understand the importance of exploring potential employees’ credit history, criminal background (including terrorist watch lists), and history of arrest or litigation to both their company culture and their bottom line.

Because the total cost of even one bad hire is incalculable, this due diligence can pay off in many ways. However, it can leave employers with a false sense of security because it represents only a snapshot of the past. It doesn’t protect against critical changes that can occur during employment. Even an annual updated background check on current employees can leave your workplace vulnerable. A fraudster could enjoy as many as 364 days of continued access to sensitive information before their next annual screening.

That’s why more and more organizations like yours are opting for automated, continuous background monitoring services that provide real-time notification of new criminal activity. What could continuous monitoring do for your organization … and your peace of mind?

Continuous Monitoring Equips HR to Protect Your Environment and Brand

It’s not easy for your HR team to physically, legally, and financially protect your assets, staff, and reputation. Your organization is vulnerable to all kinds of risk, and creating a wide but tight safety net is vital. The potential “cost” of workplace violence, theft, and fraud is unthinkable. Lives, livelihoods, and the very survival of your company are at stake.

How bad is this problem? Every year, at least 2 million people experience some form of workplace violence, with rates on the rise. So it’s no surprise that one in seven people doesn’t feel safe in their workplace (Legal Jobs).

Lawsuits associated with workplace violence cost companies an average of $500,000 for out-of-court settlements (Rave Mobile Safety) and $121 billion in total losses annually (What to Become).

Financial security is even more of a worry. In 2020, 60% of data breaches were from insiders (ID Watchdog). Continuous criminal surveillance is on the job even when you’re not, constantly scanning for threats that could harm your organization.

Continuous Monitoring Gives You Proactive Visibility into Real-Time Criminal Activity

Pre-employment background checks and annual re-checks represent a loose safety net … They’re better than nothing, but easy for offenses to slip through. A net is made of holes, after all.

In the months between background search updates, employees can incur new violations. In most cases, they won’t self-report, especially if they know it will cost them their job.

Not all violations will require termination or even disciplinary action, but it’s in your best interest to know about even low-level offenses so you can make informed decisions, control the narrative, and get ahead of any unsavory publicity.

Clearly other criminal activity such as violence or theft should trigger immediate action of some type. Continuous monitoring ensures that you are notified of arrests as soon as they are entered into the police system, enabling you to close risk gaps immediately.

Continuous Monitoring Favors Employees

Continuous background monitoring services protect your workforce, their productivity, and the engagement that ultimately safeguards your organization’s bottom line.

It allows employees to feel safer at work, knowing their employer is actively employing a reliable risk management strategy, something only about 30% of the workforce currently feels (EHS Today).

With the revelation of a low-level offense, employers can more proactively help employees obtain counseling, provide guidance to third-party resources, or approve time off from work. If it’s something more serious, employers will have time to plan ways to support coworkers who were victimized or who feel betrayed or traumatized by the news.

Continuous monitoring also makes it safer to hire employees with convictions, a growing push by lawmakers seeking to address workforce shortages (Trusted Employees).

It’s impossible to calculate the savings on disruptive outcomes you avoid. How do you put a price on saving lives, increasing employee loyalty, guarding productivity, and mitigating the exorbitant cost of liability fees?

Continuous Monitoring is Automated, Efficient and Cost-Effective

You may be sold on the value of continuous monitoring, but have concerns about the cost or the additional work it will require. That’s the beauty of it continuous monitoring. It tightens your safety net with very little attention from your staff and without budget surprises. This cost-effective measure runs efficiently in the background, living up to its name.

Managing your most vital asset – your team – is a complex and time-intensive component of your operations. It’s key to your overall success. Dynamic monitoring of your employees means you can effortlessly provide the vital safety and security your organization needs, while being freed up to focus on myriad other mandatory HR tasks.
